AVIC-5200NEX In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver
MSRP: $650
Pros: Apple CarPlay compatiable, GPS Guidance with traffic report, iDatalink Maestro RR compatible and a backup camera input.
Cons: Incompatible with Android Auto and has a smaller 6.2” resistive touch screen.
First Impression: For those that don’t need the option to use Android Auto the AVIC-5200NEX definitely has a lot of bang for the buck. Not only does it allow you to use all of the features of Apple CarPlay, it also comes with Pioneer’s GPS navigation unit, which is a nice alternative to using your phone’s data plan for turn-by-turn directions. Compared to the AVH-4200NEX you get a smaller touch screen but having the GPS navigation included for only a $50 difference, this head unit is one we recommend checking out.

Features
The AVIC-5200NEX features a double DIN in-dash multimedia and navigation comes fully equipped with a DVD/CD player, USB connectivity, Pandora ready, Siri Eyes Free, FLAC, AppRadio Mode, dual zone entertainment and Sirius ready. This stereo also features Apple CarPlay compatibility allowing a Lightning-to-USB connection to provide access to select apps on iPhones. For those that need an Android Auto compatible head unit you can check out the AVIC-7200NEX.
Once connected, the AVIC-5200NEX receiver shows large icons for functions such as Maps, Phone, Messages, Music, Now Playing, and Podcasts. Several streaming apps — including Pandora work within the Apple CarPlay interface as well. Drivers can access these functions by touch or through Siri Eyes Free functionality with a simple touch of the touchscreen to activate Siri voice control. This convenient feature provides distraction-free usage while driving. Android and iPhone users both get Pioneer’s AppRadio Mode for in-dash command of several important apps.
Navigation
A nice feature of the AVIC-5200NEX is that you can stop relying on your smartphone to deliver spotty map coverage and expensive data charges to get you from location-to-location. The AVIC-5200NEX provides built-in navigation with over 7.9 million points of interest and 3D mapping that allows realistic views of terrain, buildings, and landmarks in select areas. Pioneer designed the AVIC-5200NEX with a 6.2-inch WVGA resistive touchscreen for easy to navigate and read user interface.
