Pioneer AVH-3300NEX

MSRP: $600

It was one of those days, sitting in the office and looking out of the window at a perfectly sunny Los Angeles day. After watching a painstakingly boring Google I/O live stream, the thought of staring at a computer screen was not high on the list of things we wanted to do. Luckily for us Pioneer sent us an invite for an in-vehicle demo of their new products. We headed out to The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel where we were got a first hand look at their new single-DIN receiver. Launching in July, the new Pioneer AVH-3300NEX is set to become the first ever Android Auto and Apple CarPlaycompatible single-DIN receiver to be released.

First Impressions

We’re going to skip past the standard details; the AVH-3300NEX covers all of the basics like Bluetooth, CD/DVD player, AM/FM and back up camera input. For our preview we’ll just be focusing on the new features.

Single-DIN for the Win

For anyone with a car from the 1960s to the early 2000s you most likely don’t have space for a double-DIN stereo, and to use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay you must have at least a 6” in-dash display.  The 7” motorized touchscreen display on the AVH-3300NEX is just the solution for this. You are able to control the angle the display is positioned as well, so this unit should fit in almost any vehicle out there
