In 2018 Apple announced they would finally open up the gates to allow other navigation apps to be integrated into Apple CarPlay making Google Maps and Waze users rejoice. In 2019 Apple did a re-design of the CarPlay home screen, allowing multiple apps to be displayed on screen at a time.
With the ability to now use Google Maps with CarPlay as well as a new home screen layout, one would think that you could display Google Maps on the new layout… nope. This time however this wasn’t on Apple, it was up to the 3rd party apps like Google Maps and Waze to add this functionality. Bringing us to 2020, Google Maps has finally arrived to the CarPlay home screen. Here’s to seeing what 2021 will have in store for us.
