Android Auto was first launched on March 15, 2015. A little less than five years later Android Auto had reached 100 million downloads in January 2020. By June 2020 the number ballooned to 500 million downloads.

Fast forward to October 2020 and Android Auto has now hit over 1 billion downloads. So what’s leading to this explosive growth? Well as much as we’d like to say there are 1 billion safer drivers out there this number is probably most related to one simple fact. With the release of Android 10, Android Auto is required to be pre-installed on all phones. This would also seem to be the case with the release of Android 11.
