With Mazda being a launch partner with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in 2014, it will have taken them almost four years to actually implement these features into any of their vehicles. Announced at the 2018 New York International Auto Show, the 2018 Mazda6 will be the first Mazda vehicle to include CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
For those that had already purchased a 2018 Mazda6, there will be a retroactive upgrade to CarPlay and Android Auto available in the summer. Previously Mazda had announced that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto would also be available as a retrofit upgrade as a Genuine Mazda Accessory for any vehicles with a Mazda Connect system, no details on which models would be eligible for this upgrade have been announced though. Theoretically all 2014 and newer models with Mazda Connect could be eligible but we’ll have to wait and see until Mazda makes an official announcement.
