Cadillac CEO Calls Apple CarPlay “Extremely Clunky”
During the 2018 International Auto Show in Detroit, Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen called Apple CarPlay “extremely clunky” in an interview with Yahoo! Finance. Citing Apple Maps as his biggest complaint, notably the handoff between listening to satellite radio switching to Apple Maps and then sometimes defaulting to music on the iPhone instead of going back to satellite radio. Another issue he brings up is that Apple Maps functionality while driving:
“It was not originally conceived for a vehicle traveling at 75 miles per hour. Like when it says turn left here—at the off ramp you have passed. That kind of stuff will need further work.”
While the switchover between the Cadillac radio and Apple Maps is a legitimate complaint, we would put our money on more people streaming music from their phone while using CarPlay. Is Apple CarPlay perfect? No it is not, but its still leaps and bounds better then most OEMs offerings. Not to mention Apple is constantly updating the CarPlay app. So while the pot might be calling the kettle black, he does have a point. It’s time for Apple simply… do better.
